The omasum is the third compartment of the ruminant stomach, located posteriorly the reticulum. Its primary function is to further process partially digested food (chyme) from the reticulum. The omasum is characterized by its unique anatomy, consisting of numerous layers called leaves that maximize the surface area for absorption. These leaves are
